Yeah, I think I’m going to do NaNoWriMo this year.

What the heck is NaNoWriMo, someone who might actually read this may ask. It is short for National Novel Writers Month. It’s not a contest but a challenge to get people to write more. It happens every November. The idea is to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. That’s approximately 1,666 words every day. I did it back in 2006 with a story called “Between Here and There” and finished with over 50K words a few days ahead of schedule. I was super proud because this was the first all original story of any signification length I had ever done, or should I say finished. I wrote tons of fanfic before but that’s totally different than writing something from scratch and having to flesh out every detail and all the characters.

It’s not easy to meet the goal but it’s not super hard either. Not, if you brainstorm, outline, and organize ahead of time. It does require a commitment to write every day, though. Or have several days a week where you can pick up the slack if you miss your mark or can’t write at all for a day or two. Back 2006, I had plenty of time to write after I got off work. This year, with spending time in the gym most days after work, I’m not 100% sure I’ll be able to write every day. I only have a couple of hours after I get home to cook, eat, and relax before heading to bed and doing it all over again.  On weekends, I’m running around doing errands I don’t get done during the week. BUT, I am going to try my hardest. Only one thing will completely stop me from doing it and that is if I have to make my “special” trip to SoCal in November. That’s for another post though when I am 100% sure it’s gonna happen.

So, I have my story idea, sort of inspired by the new TV show “Sleepy Hollow”. I bounced it off my friend Valerie and she thought it sounded good. Thanks, Val!! 🙂 Even as I make this post, I’m unsure of if I should throw my idea out here. Not that I’m afraid someone will steal them, LOL! I mean after all, only 3 people will probably ever read this. But then again, this make the ideal place to do it because a) I can access it anywhere and b) the 3 people that do read this and subsequent posts can make comments and suggestions should they so choose. So, yeah, maybe I will post the brainstorming and stuff here. And maybe more than 3 people will actually read it, LOL!

  1. YAH! I am so glad you’re going to do this! I am too and hopefully I write as much as did last year. LOL 😉

    1. My next post (tomorrow probably) will likely be some of the brainstorming and stuff so keep an eye out 🙂
