To(ooms) Be or Not To(ooms) Be

For Doug Hutchison the answer is simple. He is not Tooms. Doug is nothing like the quiet, yet vicious killer he portrayed on the popular TV series "The X-Files". Doug even looks totally different from Tooms. Wearing shorts, what I imagine are Doc Martin boots, white socks, a t-shirt, and a leather biker type jacket, he's made several appearances at Creation's X-Files conventions. And he received a warm receiption at them all. Tooms is probably the best liked X-Files villian and the only one Mulder and Scully have had to face twice.

How did Doug get the part of Tooms? Well, he made a very strong impression on several of the crew of the show during his audition. He had to read the interrogation scene from the episode "Squeeze" which consisted of a series of yes's and no's. Doug had woken up that morning with a migraine and just generally not in a good mood. So he went in and read the lines. He was given some additional direction on how to play the part. While he sat and thought about the direction for a moment, the director thought he didn't understand what was being asked. So the director asked, "Do you understand the directions?" Doug looked at him and responded "Yeah, you want me to stalk you, you mother f--ker." Doug left thinking he had just blown it. When he got home he received a call from his agent saying he got the part. So apparantly, the impression he made was good  :-)

I recently spent an evening with Doug surfing the Internet and chatting with some fans on IRC. The one thing we noticed while cruising some of the web sites, was the lack of Doug and Tooms. So, hopefully, this page will help make up for some of that. If I wasn't thoroughly smitten with Doug before that evening, I certainly was afterwards. He's got a great sense of humor and is very warm and personable. Doug was thrilled to be able to talk with some of his admiring fans. He had a great time and hopefully he'll be back. I am working on an interview with Doug that will be posted to this page as well as several other areas. In the mean time though, I have complied some background and biographical infomation on Doug.
