RE: FIELD REPORT
Las Vegas, NV
August 13, 1995
1:30pm
It was time. I sat fidgeting in my seat. My first convention and
my first meeting with Mitch. They showed his Vietnam scene in
"One Breath" before he came out. When he came out, he
looked quite handsome, wearing faded blue jeans, cowboy boots,
and a white long sleeve shirt with the sleeves pushed up showing
his awesome forearms. The audience gave him a wonderful round
of applause for which he was very flattered. He told the story
of how he auditioned for two roles previous to Skinner but wasn't
chosen for. He went back a third time, not quite sure why since
the first two attempts were unsuccessful, and with an attitude.
"Apparently, Chris (Carter) mistook it for acting" cause
he got the part. Later when he asked why they liked him this time,
he was told it was the fact that he had been shaving his head
before.
He then opened up the floor for questions. There were the standard
"Do you believe in UFO" questions, as well as "How
do you like working with David/Gillian/Chris". Mitch enjoys
his work on "The X-Files" very much. I asked which he
preferred doing television, theater, or films and he replied that
he liked doing "The X-Files" the most. Theater is done
live and there's no chance to correct any mistakes and film is
a very dragged out process. Working with Chris, David, and Gillian
makes it even better as they tend to goof around on the set and
have a great time. He was asked if he was married to which he
replied no, but that he does have a girlfriend.
Mitch was very nice and well spoken up on stage. He has very commanding
presence but not an overwhelming one. He signed autographs at
the end of his Q & A session and naturally, I had to stand
in line to talk to him. I handed him a copy of "The Picture"
(see Robin Mayhall's Web page under "Other Mitchly Sites"
on the MPEB Home page). He laughed, grinned,
and blushed then asked where I got it from. I told him it was
taken from the copy of the Austin Community Theater Program for
"Frankie and Johnnie in the Clarie de Lune" that Robin
had. He remembered Robin and I had him autograph a picture for
her. I told him who I was and that it was nice meeting him. He
was polite and smiling the whole time. I, on the other hand, was
nervous as heck and felt like I was stumbling over my words. Apparently
I did make a good impression because he did remember me the next
time I saw him (see Field Report for the Pasadena Convention).
(I apologize for the incompleteness of this report as it
is being filed a month after the event and I am unsure of whether
things took place there or at Pasadena.)
Respectfully Submitted,
